The sponsoring school (LWC) is required to verify financial support before issuing the Form I-20. LWC must ensure the student has sufficient funds to study in the United States without resorting to unauthorized employment. In addition to personal funds, funding sources may include scholarships, assistantships, fellowships, and approved on-campus employment. Through credible documentary evidence, the student must establish that funds are available to meet all expenses during the first year of study. The Affidavit of Support is mandatory for all international applicants. Students must submit documentation verifying the information provided in this form.
Bank/Financial Statement Criteria
- A single-page document with the criteria stated below.
- DO NOT submit statements that include transaction history
- Evidence from bank/financial statements from multiple accounts is acceptable
- indicate the financial institution’s name
- display the account holder’s name
- clearly show the account balance
- dated within the past 12 months (statements older than 12 months will not be accepted)
- translated into English. Unofficial translations are accepted
- clearly show the type of currency
- financial statements that show liquid assets that can be converted to cash
- if the financial statement is a web printout, it must include the weblink/URL
- Funds in investment accounts - documents must state account type and account balance- accounts must be accessible liquid funds
- Employer and government sponsorships
- Formal sponsorship letters
- Evidence of an existing loan
- Federal and State Tax returns
- Salary/Payroll statements
- Chartered Accountant portfolio
- Pending or provisional educational loans or scholarship documents
